One on One Coaching
Turn Your Trauma Into Your Drama...or Comedy
(For Dysfunctional Writers Only)
As TV show creators and screenwriters, the number one aspect that demonstrates our fresh take on the stories we create is our unique writing Voice. This is what sets us apart from other writers because we are allegorizing our work from what we witnessed, experienced and saw in the world we lived in.
Skilled writers prove themselves fresh and distinct because they are able to implement their personal philosophies, ideologies, belief systems and values in their characters and situations even if it is contrasted with their opposite and shadow sides.
This is especially true for anyone who was traumatized as this is a major factor in honing our Voice. Our childhood trauma, or any kind of abuse or dysfunction that we were subject to growing up is not just something that we went through and have been trying to get over throughout our life, but it also determined our behaviors, formed who we are, it colored our world and how we moved about in our lives since. So, what if you could take these nuanced and individual experiences you have lived and bring them into every aspect of your work on the page?
Turn Your Trauma into Your Drama…or Comedy is a one-on-one coaching process designed to do just that. This coaching is not about simply plugging in the common and everyday dysfunction that movies and TV shows have illustrated on forever, it is about your nuanced, specific and individual responses and reactions to it. The childhood trauma and the dysfunction that shaped how you now see life becomes the lever that will sculpt and fine line every aspect of your screenplay or TV series.
Childhood trauma and the cumulative effects of it whether this be depression, feeling weird guilt or shame, becoming an over-achiever, OCD issues, becoming a fixer, a hero, a scapegoat or whatever, also brings with it an exceptional way of behaving and seeing the world and this is what we want. The specific ways in which you, as the writer, experienced this is what cuts your stories fresh.
From a draft, synopsis, idea pages or even a premise statement we go through a methodology to tailor every aspect of the story, the structure, the characters and behavior, the ethos and this world you are creating to reflect in a dramatic or comedic way, those life-lingering influences that replicates how you see the world into every aspect of your screenplay, TV series or web series.
In these one-on-one coaching sessions, you will learn:
How to hone your Method of Expression; your distinctive POV as reflected in your description on the page. The description you write in itself is a character rich with your own personal take as per what you went through. It is the first aspect of your Voice that is seen and heard.
To be ever sharpening the world of your story as per how you see it. This means not only the tone and feel but how you shape the story points, the structural elements and even the conventions as to embody the quirks of who you are as a writer and your truth. You are who you are as a result of your experiences growing up and out-picturing this in every component on the page this is the gig here.
To implement your take on the situation as seen in the characters, the relationships and the dialogue while imprinting your own style on them in the doing. Naturally, the protagonist, antagonist, all major characters will have a set role, function, goal and be at cross-purposes and this is how it should be. However, they too will be seen, react and behave in line with the unifying idea of your views on the story and episodes.
Why genre, style, subject matter, time period, form, or even language does not matter. When you are coming from your core experiences, what you are emotionally centering on not only influences the internal stories and personal themes but will also drive the external story in a way that is fresh, new and you.
How to beautifully illustrate your personal topics of exploration, what you have to say and why, no matter what the external narrative drive is about.
